How Much Does a Feng Shui Consultation Cost in 2026? — Real Numbers, No Phone Call Required

Actual feng shui consultation costs, from $188 BaZi readings to $5,000+ property reviews. Based on Angi data, Hong Kong market rates, and published pricing — so you can decide before you call.

If you have searched for feng shui pricing, you already know the pattern: every website says “contact us for a quote,” which tells you nothing. This article gives you real numbers — what people actually pay, what drives the range, and what the difference between a $188 reading and a $5,000 engagement actually buys.

It is written from the inside of a classical Hong Kong practice, but the market data and the pricing logic apply regardless of which consultant you choose.

What Americans pay: the market numbers

Angi (formerly Angie’s List) surveyed US homeowners in 2025 and found that professional feng shui consultations cost between $587 and $1,534, with an average of about $821. That is a national average across all types of practitioners and scopes.

On Reddit, the question appears with regularity. In the r/FengShui thread “How much should a regular session cost?”, answers range from $100 for a thirty-minute video call to $600–$1,200 for a full home audit. The consistent advice from the community: ask for the price upfront, before you share any personal details. Any consultant who cannot state a price until they have “felt your energy” or “seen your photos” is choosing not to tell you.

At the other end of the market, established Hong Kong practices charge considerably more. The International Feng Shui Federation reports residential audits from HK$20–30 per square foot — roughly US$2.50–$3.80/sq ft. A typical 1,500 sq ft apartment at those rates is US$3,750–$5,700. BaZi life readings run about HK$6,800 (US$870). These are the prices a Hong Kong family pays, and they reflect an expectation of named lineage, written reports, and a practitioner whose reputation is reviewed in a domestic market where the field is taken seriously.

Why the range is so wide

Feng shui pricing varies for the same reason architectural or legal fees vary: scope, method, geography, and credential weight.

1. Scope. A one-hour BaZi reading is a contained product. A full residential audit that includes a site visit, Flying Star chart, room-by-room analysis, and a written report is a multi-day engagement. Scope drives price more than any other factor.

2. Method. Classical feng shui — compass-measured, time-dimensional, occupant-specific — requires more inputs and more interpretation than the fixed-template BTB (Black Hat Sect) system taught in weekend certification courses in the US. More inputs mean more work, and more work costs more. This is not a value judgment on either method; it is a production fact.

3. Geography. A consultant in San Francisco or New York charges more than one in a lower cost-of-living market, for the same reason a plumber does. Remote consultation, which classical method was already doing before the pandemic normalized it, removes some of that premium — a Hong Kong master can serve a client in Ohio for the same fee as a client in Wan Chai.

4. Credential transparency. The field is unregulated. Some practitioners list named teachers, years of training, and specific classical schools; others list a membership in a directory that any paying member can join. The first group tends to charge more, and the price difference reflects verification, not marketing.

The pricing of a transparent practice

The clearest pricing signal in the US English-language market is straightforward: almost nobody publishes prices. This is a structural problem that hurts buyers — it makes comparison impossible and rewards consultants who talk more than they calculate.

This practice publishes its prices, and the logic behind them, because clients should be able to decide fit before a conversation. Here is what that looks like:

TierServicePriceWhat you get
EntryBaZi Destiny Reading$488Full Four Pillars chart + 60-min live reading + written summary
EntryAuspicious Date Selection$188Three ranked date-and-hour options within your window
CoreResidential Feng Shui AuditFrom $1,288Flying Star chart, room-by-room analysis, personal directions, 20–30pp report + 45-min debrief
CoreBusiness & Office Feng ShuiFrom $1,888Same discipline, applied to commercial premises
PrivateProperty Selection (Pre-Purchase)By proposal (from ~$5,000)Screening criteria + shortlist reviews + full audit of chosen property
PrivateAnnual Advisory RetainerBy proposal (from ~$5,000/year)Annual chart updates, unlimited date selection, priority access

The prices ending in 8 are intentional — eight is the number of prosperity in Cantonese tradition. Call it superstitious if you like; a Hong Kong practice would call it on-brand. The point is: the numbers are public, the deliverables are listed, and the first conversation confirms scope and fee in writing, before any payment.

What a “by proposal” engagement means

Three services — Property Selection, and the Annual Retainer — are scoped individually. A property search that covers two weeks and three properties is a different engagement than one that spans six months and twenty properties. We fix the fee in writing once we both know the scope. You are not committing to anything by asking.

How to get a straight answer from any consultant

If you are reaching out to a practice that does not publish prices, ask these three questions in your first message:

  1. “What is the total fee for the service I am asking about, and what does it include?”
  2. “Is there a scoping conversation where the exact fee is confirmed in writing before I commit?”
  3. “Can you show me a sample of the deliverable — report, chart, reading summary — before I pay?”

A practice that answers all three directly is operating professionally. A practice that deflects is selling a conversation, not a service. The difference shows up in the first reply.

The short version

Feng shui consultation pricing in the US ranges from about $100 for a short video reading to $5,700 for a Hong Kong-grade residential audit. Entry services like BaZi readings and date selection fall at $188–$488. Full residential audits cluster at $800–$3,000. Property selection and annual retainers, which involve ongoing work across multiple properties or a full year, start around $5,000.

Price transparency in this field is rare enough that it is itself a differentiator. If you are comparing practices, compare the published prices — and ask why the ones without them do not have them.
